Introducing Sean
Sean Innis is evolving into a modestly impoverished, but intellectually fulfilled, writer. His mantra is deeper thinking for a better world. Believing in this helps him sleep at night.
Of(f) Course Minister is Sean’s first book. His second book - Maxine’s Story: Desperation, Hope and the Promise of Australia - is currently winding its way through the publication process.
Sean is an expert columnist for The Mandarin and has written on a wide range of public interest topics. This includes series and one off columns on Australia’s constitution, the importance of ritual, the busyness phenomenon, building trust in government, the role of companies in society, what productivity really means, public service stewardship and values, the future of work and four day working week, the idea of a mission economy and more.
Whenever he writes, Sean has three objectives. One is to highlight something interesting you may not know. The second is to give you something to think about. The third is to make you laugh or smile.
Sean is an honorary fellow at the Australian National University and an adjunct fellow at the University of New South Wales. He is senior fellow at the think tank, ADC Forum and an associate at Queritas - a firm of consulting philosophers.
Prior to writing full time, Sean had a number of (ahem) real jobs. He ran a consulting firm and was inaugural director of the Public Policy Hub at ANU. Before this, Sean was special adviser to the Productivity Commission and a senior executive in the Australian Public Service. He has also been an ordinary university tutor and a rather terrible bank teller.
Sean was born in Perth and, despite living in Canberra, sincerely believes that the sun was designed to set over the ocean. He plays guitar to the general annoyance and very occasional delight of his family. Sean was once involved in a (albeit slow) car chase through the streets of Moscow.
Sean loves having respectful conversations about issues that matter. Email Sean at seaninnis@live.com.au or message him on Linked in.
